Dear Seaver Students,
Over my 50+ year career in Civil and Environmental Engineering many challenges have faced me. I have faced: Economic Recessions in the 70’s 80’s 90’s, 00’s and 10’s decades; which affected my employment and business in negative ways. Riots in the 60’s, 90’s and most recently have affected our profession; especially in the inner cities, where I have worked and practiced our profession. Loyola, when I attended, required all engineering students to minor in Philosophy & Theology. Having that broad educational background, as a student instilled us with a mission; to serve our Lord in two worlds. Having that foundation has seen me through all the ups and downs in my career and never failed to see me through.
As a member of the first Loyola chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), I was inspired by ASCE’s slogan at that time, that “Civil Engineering is a People Serving Profession,” which has led me to a career of giving to our constituents, and clients service to meet their particular challenges and needs to enhance the quality of life, public health and safety in the communities they serve.
I know you are facing very challenging times of uncertainty; but remember what you have learned at LMU and always give your best efforts to serve your future employers and the communities that they serve. Learn to be the servant of all and your life with be blessed with success.
