SFTV alum Martin Helgeland ’17 (Film and Television Production) is adapting writer and surfer Kem Nunn’s first novel, Tapping The Source, as a feature screenplay for Universal Pictures. Nunn’s novel about a young man who ventures into a dangerous California surfing community to solve the mystery of his missing sister was a finalist for the National Book Award in 1984.
Helgeland had previously sold his feature screenplay Slayer to Legendary Pictures. The project will be produced by Nunn and overseen by Matt Reilly, Universal’s EVP of Production.
Martin is the son of Brian Helgeland ’87, a veteran screenwriter whose many credits include L.A. Confidential and Mystic River.
