Mathematics alum Esmeralda Villalpando Cardenas (’13) and mathematics major Leslie Koffi (’15) presented the workshop “Patterns + Mathematics = Figures for Math,” to junior high school girls at the Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) Career Day held March 14, 2015 at Mount St. Mary’s College. The workshop focused on recognizing the role patterns play in mathematics, presented information on the female mathematician Sonia Kovalevsky, and encouraged the mostly 6th grade audience to include math, science, and college in their future. They were accompanied by Dr. Jacqueline Dewar, Emerita Professor of Mathematics, whose involvement in EYH began in 1979.
