Accounting Alumnus of the Year Mike Good ’96 shared some valuable career advice with students at the Accounting Society Spring Banquet:
“Stay true to yourself and don’t compromise your values.”
“Never stop learning and growing as a person and a professional.”
“Integrity, loyalty and faith will take you far.”
“It all comes down to finding the right balance between work, life and family.”
These life lessons have served Mike well throughout his career at CohnReznick, the 12th largest accounting firm in the United States. He has been with the firm since graduating magna cum laude from LMU in 1996 and was promoted to partner in 2008.
Today, Mike leads CohnReznick’s Not-for-Profit and Education Industry Practice in Los Angeles where he serves a wide range of clients that include not-for-profit entities, affordable housing, social service organizations and educational institutions. He has more than 20 years of experience providing a variety of accounting and audit-related services to his clients, including assessment of internal controls.
“This recognition is extremely meaningful as LMU has always had a special place in my heart,” said Mike.
During his acceptance speech, Mike emphasized the importance of giving back and staying engaged with your alma mater. He has built an impressive record of service to LMU over the past 20 years, which includes serving as chair of the LMU Accounting Advisory Board, a recruiter and mentor to accounting students, and a volunteer with LMU Special Games to support and celebrate the special needs community.
“We are proud of Mike’s accomplishments as a professional and thankful for his contributions and commitment to the LMU Accounting Program,” said Larry Kalbers, R. Chad Dreier Chair in Accounting Ethics.
In addition to the LMU Accounting Advisory Board, Mike serves on the St. Joseph’s Health Support Alliance Board and his professional affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and California Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Mike and his wife, Laura, stay active with their three kids who participate in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and soccer. Family activities include watching movies, skiing, playing games and spending time in Big Bear.
“Mike is highly successful and well respected in his profession, yet understands that life is about balance and priorities,” added Kalbers. “He is an outstanding exemplar for our accounting students and alumni.”
