The Loyola Marymount University School of Education presents its 2016 Impact Report – Jump to Inclusion: Educating to Ensure Success for All Learners.
Guided by the centuries-old Jesuit/Marymount tradition, the Loyola Marymount University School of Education continues to seek new ways to advance inclusive education while striving to promote social justice and the education of the whole person. We remain steadfast in our resolve to prepare the next generation of leaders in PreK-20 education – leaders who will create inclusive environments where all learners can thrive.
“We have an opportunity to reimagine educator preparation in a new and profound way that puts all youth – with the multiple differences, similarities and intersectionalities that they bring – at the center of our work,” says Shane P. Martin, SOE dean. “We think of our SOE as a professional learning community, committed to continuous improvement, and we are constantly seeking new and better ways to put what we learn about inclusion into practice.”
The 2016 Impact Report has been honored with the Silver award in the category of Institutional Relations Publications: President’s Reports and Annual Reports on behalf of the CASE District VII Board of Directors and the CASE VII Awards of Excellence Committee. This is the third consecutive year the SOE Impact Report has received a CASE District VII Award of Excellence:

Highlights from our 2016 Impact Report include:
- In U.S. News & World Report’s latest “Best Graduate Schools” listing, LMU SOE ranked 62nd out of approximately 1,500 schools, colleges and departments of education nationwide, and among the top three Jesuit institutions nationally.
- SOE is acknowledged nationally by leading educator preparation organizations. The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education recognized the LMU School of Education in February 2016 with the 2016 Best Practice Award in Support of Multicultural Education and Diversity.
- LMU’s Center for Catholic Education continues to be a powerful force in furthering the mission of Catholic schools in Southern California and across the country. The National Catholic Educational Association awarded the LMU CCE with the prestigious Karen M. Ristau Innovation Award for its innovation in providing instruction, leadership and support for Catholic education and for its comprehensive scope and scale.
- Our faculty and staff continue to receive numerous awards and distinctions and publish books and journal articles. Our faculty have received awards from the American Educational Research Association and the Fulbright program.
- The SOE and university’s education unit secured nearly $6.7 million in sponsored research and contracts – a 3% increase from last year.
