The Noyce Summer Internship Program, gives STEM majors considering K-12 teaching as a career the opportunity to work as teaching interns in an informal education setting. Each Noyce intern receives a $3000 stipend and lives on-campus while completing an 8 week science/math summer camp internship at one of five partner organizations: Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, Heal the Bay, The Aquarium of the Pacific, LA Audubon and the California Science Center. The 2015 Noyce Summer Interns are Jelani Bramble-Manning and Kaitlyn Yee (Biology), Jillian Dawley, Jack Polerecky, Katherine Wright and Xaida Wright (Biochemistry), Lizet Pacheco and Harper Woker (Health and Human Sciences) Valeria Muñoz (Civil Engineering) and Janessa Arevalo (Engineering Physics). In addition to working in an established science education program, interns will participate in the Noyce Colloquium, a seminar series designed specifically to highlight issues related to teaching, with a focus on math and science. During the fall semester, the interns will present posters showcasing their work at a session co-sponsored by Sigma Xi and the Center for Undergraduate Teacher Preparation. The Noyce Internship Program is funded by an NSF Noyce grant.
