Ruby-Ann Manalaysay (Biology, 2015), Justino Franco (Civil Engineering, 2016) and Joanathan Isosaki (Mathematics, 2016) have been selected as Noyce Scholars for the 2014-15 academic year. Lion’s Roar, LMU’s Robert Noyce Scholarship Program is funded by the National Science Foundations and is designed to encourage talented STEM majors with a passion for their subject to pursue careers in K-12 teaching, and to provide them with the skills and support they need to become effective teachers. The Noyce scholars have committed to earning their high school teaching credential and teaching in a high-need school district for two years. They will also participate in the Noyce Urban Teachers Learning Seminars during their first year of teaching; these seminars are designed to address the needs of first year teachers in high need urban environments and will be led by Katharine Clemmer in LMU’s School of Education.
