Ruby-Ann Manalaysay (Biology, 2015), Justino Franco (Civil Engineering, 2016) and Joanathan Isosaki (Mathematics, 2016) have been selected as Noyce Scholars for the 2014-15 academic year. Lion’s Roar, LMU’s Robert Noyce Scholarship Program is funded by the National Science Foundations and is designed to encourage talented STEM majors with a passion for their subject to pursue careers in K-12 teaching, and to provide them with the skills and support they need to become effective teachers. The Noyce scholars have committed to earning their high school teaching credential and teaching in a high-need school district for two years. They will also participate in the Noyce Urban Teachers Learning Seminars during their first year of teaching; these seminars are designed to address the needs of first year teachers in high need urban environments and will be led by Katharine Clemmer in LMU’s School of Education. Applications for the 2015/16 scholarships are available from Noyce@lmu.edu.
