The LMU School of Education presents its 2013 Annual Report – Trailblazers – Leading the Way in Education. As the educational landscape continues to shift, both here in Los Angeles and across the nation, this publication highlights the impact the SOE’s faculty, staff, students, and alumni have on the real world of schools and communities. Some highlights from the report include:
- This year we continued to rise in the U.S. News rankings, moving 57 positions in three years to 74th in the nation.
- Our faculty presented at numerous national and international conferences, published multiple books and journal articles, and secured nearly $6 million in sponsored research and contracts.
- The LMU Center for Catholic Education welcomed a new executive director, Rev. Robert T. Walsh, S.J., and became the host institution for Catholic Education, the world’s most widely distributed peer-reviewed journal on Catholic education.
- The LMU Center for Math and Science Teaching is redefining STEM education through partnerships with Playa Vista Elementary School and the Mathematics Leadership Corps, part of the national 100Kin10 movement to increase the number of STEM teachers.
- The LMU Center for Equity for English Learners is leading groundbreaking initiatives that prepare educators to better address the needs of ELs, most prominently Project STELLAR, funded by the largest federal grant in LMU’s history.
- SOE hosted multiple groundbreaking events, including The Education Success Project with State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and the university’s first TEDx conference, TEDxLoyolaMarymountU.
