Music documentaries, international premieres, and stellar keynote speeches by A-list stars. Only one festival offers such a delightful mash-up of experiences and now, 10 lucky SFTV students are joining the party at 2021 SXSW online, running March 16-20.
“I’m excited to be inspired by other filmmakers at SXSW. I believe that watching other’s work is the best way to improve my own work, so I look forward to this potential opportunity to learn more about filmmaking,” said freshman Janelle Little, one of the festival pass winners. In partnership with SXSW, SFTV was able to provide the passes to the beloved Austin film festival through a flash giveaway.
This year’s film program includes 75 features including world premieres, over 50 films from first-time filmmakers, plus short films, music videos, pilots, special events, and more. “Film festivals are a great place to be inspired by fellow filmmakers, network with industry insiders, and be a part of the conversation happening in your industry,” says Lex McNaughton, SFTV’s Career and Film Festival Specialist.
Screenwriting major Keith Collier hopes to discover emerging talents and trends. “I watch anything I can get access to and it would be awesome to see what new innovations and hidden gems will be shown. On a more technical level, I’m interested to see the types of projects premiering a year into COVID and what trends might appear as a result.”
