Beginning on All Soul’s Day (Nov. 2) and throughout the month of November, the Catholic Church remembers our deceased loved ones. Here at Loyola Marymount University the Jesuit Community invites the greater LMU family — students, faculty, alumni, staff, and facilities workers — to join with them in prayer for all those who have gone before us and for their families who continue to mourn the loss of parents, grandparents, family, colleagues and friends.
The sense of loss weighs heavily on our collective hearts as we continue to remember and pray for the millions of lives lost globally due to the coronavirus pandemic. The LMU community will have two opportunities to gather together for prayer and to remember all those who have died, and, in particular, to pray for those whose lives left this Earth due to the pandemic.
On Nov. 2, 2022, All Souls Day, the LMU community will celebrate a Mass in commemoration of all the faithful departed in Sacred Heart Chapel at 12:05 p.m. Later that same day, we will gather again in the evening in front of Sacred Heart Chapel for an interfaith candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. At this service, students will process by candlelight into Sacred Heart Chapel where an ofrenda (an altar built for honoring those who have died) will be built on the Día de los Muertos, Day of the Dead. All will have the opportunity to place a picture or piece of memorabilia of those who have passed away at the altar, this reserved place of remembrance for the dead. The ofrenda will remain in place in Sacred Heart Chapel for the entire month of November.
In addition, throughout the month of November, the members of the LMU Jesuit Community will remember our deceased loved ones in their prayers and at Masses celebrated at the Chapel of St. Ignatius located within the LMU Jesuit Community. We invite you to submit the names your loved ones to be included in a list for remembrance at these times of special prayer.

Recordando A Nuestros Difuntos
A partir del 2 de noviembre, Día de todos los fieles difuntos , y durante todo el mes de noviembre, la Iglesia recuerda a nuestros seres queridos fallecidos. Aquí, en la Universidad Loyola Marymount, la comunidad jesuita invita a la gran familia de LMU (estudiantes, profesores, exalumnos, personal y trabajadores de las instalaciones) a unirse a ellos en oración por todos los que nos han precedido y por sus familias que continúan lamentando la pérdida de padres, abuelos, familiares, compañeros y amigos.
El sentido de pérdida nos abruma colectivamente mientras seguimos recordando y orando por las muchas vidas perdidas a nivel global debido al virus. La comunidad jesuita de LMU tendrá dos ocasiones para reunirnos para orar y recordar a todos aquellos que han fallecido, en particular aquellos fallecidos debido a la pandemia.
El 2 de noviembre, Día de todos los fieles difuntos, la comunidad de LMU celebrará misa en la Capilla del Sagrado Corazón a las 12:05 p.m. en conmemoración de los que nos han precedido ante Dios. Más tarde ese mismo día, nos reuniremos otra vez a las 7:00 p.m. enfrente de la capilla para una vigilia interreligiosa con velas. Durante este servicio, los estudiantes entrarán a la capilla en procesión con las velas, dentro de la cual una ofrenda (un altar construido para honrar a aquellos que han fallecido) se establecerá el Día de los Muertos. Tod@s tendrán la oportunidad de colocar una foto o un recuerdo de sus difuntos sobre el altar, este lugar de recuerdo de los que se nos han adelantado ante Dios. La ofrenda permanecerá en la capilla durante todo el mes de noviembre.
Durante el mes de noviembre, los miembros de la comunidad jesuita de LMU recordarán a nuestros seres queridos fallecidos en sus oraciones y en las misas celebradas en la Capilla de San Ignacio ubicada dentro de la comunidad jesuita de LMU. Les invitamos a nombrar a sus seres queridos para que se incluyan en una lista para recordar en estos momentos de oración especial.
