Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television proudly announces the inaugural cohort of the LMU Sony Social Impact Lab, a new initiative launched in partnership with Sony Electronics to empower the next generation of filmmakers using storytelling as a tool for social change.
The selected films—ranging from narrative dramas and documentaries to socially conscious proofs of concept—tackle urgent issues such as systemic violence, disability advocacy, immigration, grief, and job reentry after incarceration. Each project will receive production support, including funding, access to Sony’s state-of-the-art cinema technology, and creative mentorship from Sony executives and LMU faculty lab advisors, Amy Vincent, ASC, Lauren Wolkstein, Laura Terruso, and Camille Tucker.
“The quality and subject matter of the projects selected for the inaugural Social Impact Lab speak volumes not only about the expertise and vision of emerging filmmakers but the standard of education they’re receiving through LMU SFTV,” said Theresa Alesso, President, Imaging Products and Solutions of Americas, Sony Electronics Inc. “Sony remains dedicated to the future of storytelling and is honored that our lenses and screens are playing a critical role in shining a light on these important and impactful stories.”
“This program is a dream realized,” said Joanne Moore, Dean of LMU’s School of Film and Television. “We believe deeply in the power of storytelling to create social impact. The LMU Sony Social Impact Lab allows our alumni to build meaningful portfolios while exploring the most pressing issues of our time. The films in our inaugural year are a testament to the caliber of talent coming out of LMU and to the generosity of our partner, Sony Electronics.”
