José García Moreno, professor of animation in the LMU School of Film and Television and director of the Academy of Catholic Thought and Imagination, has been selected to serve a three-year term on the board of Collegium. Collegium, a consortium of about 60 member institutions, was founded in 1992 to help faculty at Catholic colleges and universities better understand the mission of Catholic higher education, with an eye to advancing that mission in creative ways that respond to the demands of their time.
“The full board was very enthusiastic about the unique set of gifts García Moreno, brings to our shared work,” said Karen Eifler, the director of Collegium. “This board really wants to be active in moving the Collegium agenda forward, and I have no doubt that García Moreno, will contribute a lot to those efforts.”
John Sebastian, vice president for Mission and Ministry at LMU, similarly observed that “Professor García Moreno, as an animator and filmmaker, brings a unique perspective to the work of interpreting the Catholic intellectual tradition that will be invaluable to Collegium as the organization looks toward the future.”
Collegium’s member institutions reflect the full diversity of Catholic colleges and universities from all over the United States and Canada. Since 2002 Collegium has been sponsored by the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, which serves as the collective voice of U.S. Catholic higher education.
“The presence of LMU at the Collegium board, through my representation, will facilitate a more active interaction of our institution with an ample range of Catholic colleges and universities,” said García Moreno.
