The university is saddened to share that Susan Shepard, former Loyola Law School assistant dean of admission and a former LMU University Relations liaison to the Board of Regents, died on Sept. 12, 2022. She was 75 years old.
The university resolution passed by former LMU President Robert B. Lawton, S.J., at the time of her retirement, said, “Ms. Shepard was dedicated and effective in managing the varied and complicated duties required of her as liaison to the Board of Regents. She advanced the university’s mission by supporting and enhancing the work of the Board. Ms. Shepard transformed the Board of Regents into a distinguished group of individuals whose advice and support is significant in providing the future focus for the university as it continues to position itself for increased success.”
Her roles at LMU over 18 years involved recruitment, advancement, and special events. And she was widely known and loved for her musical involvement with the LMU liturgies. As a classically trained singer, she played a featured role in countless baccalaureate Masses, special liturgies, Regent and Trustee events, and LMU presidential inaugurations.
Her presence and her voice will be missed.
Please keep her husband, Leonard Kleiman, son Darren Kleiman ’95, daughter Stephanie Younger ’94 and Regent, daughter Elizabeth Smith ’00, and son-in-law Kelly Younger ’94 and LMU professor of English, and her seven grandchildren in your prayers.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Susan Shepard Fund for the Directorship of Music at Our Lady of the Mountains in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
