Dear LMU Community,
I am so happy to welcome you to LMU for the 2023-24 academic year. As we kick off this new academic year, I want to remind you of the importance of community. Our LMU community is special and I encourage each of you, whether this is your first year at LMU or your last year on the bluff, to find those who you feel connected to through mentorship, involvement in student organizations and programs.
I would love to meet you and get to know each of you and your stories. I urge you to lean in and learn about each other’s stories. Engage in dialogue across differences. And I hope you come to appreciate that your individual story makes up the collective LMU community narrative. Know that being part of the LMU community is coming together and showing our LMU pride:
- Wellness Wednesday: Join me tomorrow, Aug. 30, at Wellness Wednesday on Regents Grass starting at 11 a.m. for a swag swap, bring another school’s gear to trade for Lion Pride swag.
- Lion Pride Fridays: Join Student Affairs staff and I as we celebrate Lion Pride Fridays each week by sporting our favorite LMU gear and especially this week as we proudly sport the crimson and the blue for #CollegeColorsDay.
- Find Your Community: The start of the new semester offers so many events and ways to connect with your fellow Lions. Visit our Student EXP hub for the latest events and ways to get connected to community. Follow Student Affairs on Instagram @LMUStudentEXP and X @LMUStudentEXP.

The entire Division of Student Affairs and myself are here to support each of you in your academic success, your service and leadership development, and how you will take everything you have learned here and go out and Ignite a Brighter World. Our team takes great pride and responsibility in working with each of you and our commitment to you is this, we want to:
- Provide the best-in-class student experience;
- Support your health and well-being;
- Promote your wellness through recreation and outdoor adventures;
- Ensure you have access and opportunities to become a global citizen;
- Prepare you to serve and have an impact on your community.
The 2023-24 academic year marks my sophomore year at LMU, and as such, I am proud to announce we are launching a new effort to engage our sophomores called Sophomore Success. For several years, our campus has offered strong programs for first-year students through orientation programming, the orientation (ORNT) 1000 course, and now we want to build and cultivate support and programming for our sophomore students.
Class of 2026, get ready to ignite a year of celebration dedicated to you. We know you are still eager to deepen your connection to campus and reflect on your life of purpose. We’ll start with things like the Sophomore Scoop with ice cream; Adulting Is Scary Bingo with mini-TED Talks on adulting topics; weekly social events in March; and a halfway to graduation celebration at the end of the year.
I look forward to meeting and welcoming you to the LMU community, seeing you at events, and creating a year full of Lion Pride!
Go Lions!
