Loyola Marymount University is closely monitoring recent federal policy changes affecting grants, loans, and financial assistance programs. While the situation continues to change, the White House has confirmed that federal student aid programs—including Pell Grants, direct student loans, and work-study—are not impacted by the broader federal funding pause. Additionally, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid remain unaffected.
What We Know
- On Jan. 28, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directed federal departments to pause grants, loans, and financial assistance programs.
- Later that day, a federal judge temporarily blocked the freeze.
- On Jan. 29, OMB rescinded the directive, allowing funding to continue.
- Despite this reversal, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the president’s executive orders on federal funding “remain in full force and effect and will be rigorously implemented.”
