Reminder – Take the SimpsonScarborough Brand Survey
At the end of last week, you received a survey email from LMU’s brand research partner, SimpsonScarborough. Don’t let it slip to the bottom of your inbox! Please take 10 minutes to share your perspectives on LMU. Our goal is to gather evidence-based viewpoints by canvassing a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and audiences. Read about the brand development initiative from LMU This Week, and check your email for a message from Daniel Himmelfarb, which contains your unique survey link. Your responses will be submitted directly to SimpsonScarborough and will be kept confidential.

HURRICANE AND EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORTS
Donations and fundraising are the most effective assistance the LMU community can provide at this time in regards to hurricane and earthquake relief efforts in Houston, Florida, Puerto Rico and Mexico. It is best that you make monetary contributions, no matter how small, so that agencies on the ground can use these funds to meet the needs of the victims of the hurricane in the most effective way possible.
The following agencies are on the ground and are already providing aid to hurricane and earthquake victims:
- United Way of Miami Dade supports local agencies that will provide for local community needs such as hotel vouchers, food pantries, and mental health services.
- Catholic Charities of Galveston-Houston provides food, clothing and shelter to those most effected by Hurricane Harvey.
- Catholic Relief Service is soliciting donations to respond to damage caused by Hurricanes Irma Jose and Maria for people in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and other Caribbean Islands.
- UNICEF is supporting recovery services in the Mexican cities effected by the recent earthquakes.
- Colegio San Ignacio, a high school in San Juan, is one of the Jesuit ministries of the Central Southern Province. Donations will support students, families and parishioners who have been effected by Hurricane Maria.
- Americares is focusing its relief efforts on providing emergency medicine, supplies and medical outreach to residents of Puerto Rico.
LMU students from Houston organized a “Houston, we have a problem” art and music event last Friday, Sept. 22 that raised over $1,000. Additionally, Campus Ministry will donate their collections from the 10am, 8pm and 10pm Masses to relief efforts. If you would like to work on a fundraising event or for more information, please contact Pam Rector in the Center for Service and Action at pam.rector@lmu.edu.

Reminder – Password Security
Last month, several LMU employees inadvertently gave away their passwords due to email phishing scams. As a result, their accounts were used to send out large amounts of spam, and LMU’s online reputation was compromised. ITS has worked diligently to successfully restore our online standing, however, some Internet Service Providers take longer than others to update, and some of your emails may be rejected as potential spam. If you’ve received a “bounce back” message when trying to send email to off-campus recipients, please try sending the email again. As noted in our back-to-school email last Monday, please use extreme responsibility in protecting your LMU credentials. ITS will never ask you for your password. If you are ever in doubt about the validity of an email, please contact the ITS Help Desk.
