Hurricane Irma Relief Efforts
Donations and fundraising are the most effective assistance the LMU community can provide at this time in regards to Hurricane Irma relief efforts. It is best that you make monetary contributions, no matter how small, so that agencies on the ground can use these funds to meet the needs of the victims of the hurricane in the most effective way possible.
The following agencies are on the ground and are already providing aid to hurricane victims:
- United Way of Miami Dade supports local agencies that will provide for local community needs such as hotel vouchers, food pantries, and mental health services.
- Catholic Relief Service is soliciting donations to respond to Irma and to prepare for Hurricane Jose for people in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and other Caribbean Islands.
- American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is working with animals who have been separated from their owners during Hurricane Irma.
- Team Rubicon is deploying veterans to Florida to begin the clean-up of the damage caused by Hurricane Irma.
If you would like to work on a fundraising event or for more information, please contact Pam Rector in the Center for Service and Action at pam.rector@lmu.edu.

Reminder – Password Security
Last week, several LMU employees inadvertently gave away their passwords due to email phishing scams. As a result, their accounts were used to send out large amounts of spam, and LMU’s online reputation was compromised. ITS has worked diligently to successfully restore our online standing, however, some Internet Service Providers take longer than others to update, and some of your emails may be rejected as potential spam. If you’ve received a “bounce back” message when trying to send email to off-campus recipients, please try sending the email again. As noted in our back-to-school email last Monday, please use extreme responsibility in protecting your LMU credentials. ITS will never ask you for your password. If you are ever in doubt about the validity of an email, please contact the ITS Help Desk.
