As seasonal illnesses continue to circulate, LMU Student Health Services encourages everyone to take simple steps to help prevent the spread of illnesses, including influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), COVID-19, common cold viruses, and hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD).
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay up to date on recommended vaccinations, including the annual flu vaccine.
If you’re sick:
- Stay home and away from others until your symptoms are improving overall and you have been fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours.
- When returning to normal activities following a respiratory illness, consider additional precautions for the next five days, including wearing a well-fitting mask when around others, practicing good hand hygiene, and avoiding close contact with people who may be at higher risk of serious illness.
- Cover coughs and sneezes and wash your hands frequently.
- If you develop a rash or blisters, keep the affected areas clean and covered when possible and avoid touching them or sharing personal items with others.
If you have questions or wish to speak to a nurse or medical provider on campus, LMU students can schedule an appointment with Student Health Services, by calling 310.338.2881 or use the MyHealth Portal, which can be accessed in the “Systems Logins” tab on MyLMU. If you test positive for COVID-19 or have had a suspected or confirmed exposure to it, you should contact the LMU COVID support team at COVIDSupportTeam@lmu.edu or call 310.568.6868.
