Dear Colleagues:
I write to share that our friend and colleague, Audra Verrier, Ph.D., will leave LMU at the end of the spring semester.
Associate Vice Provost Verrier joined LMU in 2023 as associate provost for career and professional development. During her tenure, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the career trajectories of LMU students and alumni, demonstrating unwavering dedication and unparalleled commitment to their success.
AVP Verrier’s innovative approaches to career services, her ability to forge meaningful connections with industry leaders, and her genuine passion for student development have left an indelible mark on LMU. Under her leadership, LMU Career and Professional Development has expanded its resources and initiatives, empowering our students to excel in their professional accomplishments.
As AVP Verrier embarks on her next endeavor, we extend our deepest thanks for her numerous contributions to our campus community. Her compassion, mentorship, and inspiring leadership will be greatly missed .
A search for our next AVP will be underway soon, but in the meantime, Tom Matthews, Ph.D., will serve as the interim associate vice provost. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role, with 35 years of university career center leadership in a variety of settings, including Case Western Reserve University and SUNY Polytechnic Institute. His impressive portfolio includes career and academic advising, first-year experience, undergraduate research, pre-professional advising, student entrepreneurship, and leading the creation and implementation of a new division of student success at his previous institution. He is also the principal and owner of a consulting practice focused on career development and executive coaching.
AVP Matthews earned his Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision from Syracuse University, his M.Ed. in counselor education from Penn State University, and his B.A. in communication studies and psychology from Bridgewater State University.
His deep understanding of students’ greatest career needs and his commitment to fostering professional growth make him an excellent fit during this transition period. We are confident that with AVP Matthews at the helm, the department will continue to thrive while we work to find a final candidate for the position. His first day on campus was Monday, April 7.
Please join us in welcoming Tom to his interim role and wishing Audra all the best in her future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Maureen P. Weatherall, Ed.D.
Vice Provost for Enrollment Management
