Loyola Marymount University’s Sustainability Committee is accepting proposals for student projects that strengthen LMU’s sustainability culture through infrastructure improvements, educational programs and community engagement. The committee has allocated funding through the support and sponsorship of The Coca-Cola Co.
Environmental stewardship and ecological concern are top priorities across LMU. At the end of October, The Princeton Review released its annual Guide to Green Colleges that ranked LMU as the 23rd greenest school in the U.S. out of 511 universities. The honor recognizes the university’s superb sustainability practices, strong foundation in sustainability education, and a healthy quality of life for students on campus. Data from a student survey included student assessments of the influence of sustainability issues on their academic and campus experiences; administrator and student support for environmental awareness and conservation efforts; and the visibility and impact of student environmental groups on the campus.
Interested students can apply for awards by submitting their project proposals through a new application process. The committee welcomes any proposal focused on sustainability — whether it’s an infrastructure improvement, an event, a speaker, or a workshop. Projects should have a tangible social, educational, or environmental impact on campus and must be completed by the end of the 2024-25 fiscal year (May 31st). Award amounts will range from $500 to $2,500, and recipients will be announced before the semester ends.
The due date for applications is Dec. 8, 2024. Click here to view and submit your application. For more details, please reach out to green@lmu.edu.
