As the campus gets busier with more faculty, staff, and students arriving each day, it is time to remember that safety is everyone’s responsibility. Cart drivers and bicyclists must operate their vehicles with care and concern for those around them.
Safety Reminders for Campus Cart Drivers
With heightened campus activity, it is imperative that all LMU carts are operated responsibly, to ensure the safety of everyone on campus. The university shares the following reminders, regarding cart safety:
- Only drive carts if authorized and trained by LMU Environmental Health and Safety.
- Do not drive on pedestrian walkways (i.e. Dismount Zone/Palm Walk, Alumni Mall, etc.) except during emergencies or if the cart is specifically required to conduct work in a particular area (in which case, a slow speed shall be maintained).
- Keep a safe distance from pedestrians and other vehicles.
- Keep hands free (no eating/drinking/phone use).
- Always use hand signals for turns and stops.

Bike Safety Reminder
Whether you’re commuting across campus or riding home after class, remember to ride safely and secure your bicycle properly. Use front and rear lights when riding after dark, wear reflective gear, inspect your brakes and tires regularly, obey all traffic signs, and avoid distractions while riding.
When parking, always use an authorized bike rack and secure your bike with a sturdy U-lock through the frame and rear wheel. Register your bike, keep a record of the serial number, and report suspicious activity or theft to Campus Safety Services immediately. Together, we can help keep LMU safe for everyone.
