The safety and well-being of LMU community members remain our top priority: this advisory is to make community members aware of a recent incident. On Wednesday, Sept. 27, a light pole near the Burns Recreation Center tennis courts fell, injuring two children from the LMU Children’s Center. The children are currently recovering. Our thoughts and prayers are with both families, and the university and LMUCC are in close contact with those who have been impacted. More specific information, including support resources, has been shared with the LMU Children’s Center community.
Facilities Management has completed visual and tactile inspections along with anchor checks of light poles at the LMU Children’s Center, Hannon Lot A, and tennis courts. The university is in the process of conducting visual and tactile inspections of light poles across campus along with anchor checks and, thereafter, will perform further external evaluations. Following these inspections, corrective actions will be taken as appropriate. We will continue investigating this matter to prevent similar incidents in the future.
