Dear LMU Community:
I am pleased to announce that effective June 15, Roosevelt O. Shelton, Ph.D., will serve as the interim dean of LMU School of Education while we conduct a nationwide search for our next permanent dean.
Interim Dean Shelton comes to LMU through The Registry, an executive leadership placement company. He has decades of experience in higher education as a faculty member and as an administrator, having served as interim dean of the College of Education and Human Development and the College of Public Service at Jackson State University. He also served as associate vice president of Enrollment Management and associate vice president of Academic Affairs at Kentucky State University. Interim Dean Shelton earned his Ph.D. in curriculum, supervision and instruction, and music education from The University of Alabama.
He has been instrumental in supporting accreditation and self-study methodology, promoting the scholarship of teaching and learning through collaborative mechanisms, and in reviewing programs and overseeing strategic planning efforts. I am confident that he will maintain the momentum that Dean Michelle Young has achieved and will be a great asset to our university while we search for the next dean of the school.
I am grateful to the SOE Interim Dean Advisory Committee (listed below) for the time, expertise, and advice they provided me during my discernment process.
Please join me in welcoming Interim Dean Shelton to our community.
Sincerely,
Thomas Poon, Ph.D.
