Dear Finance Division Colleagues,
I am very pleased to announce that Fidel Aguayo, a 2013 graduate of LMU’s Executive MBA program, will be the new vice president for Treasury and Investment, effective Tuesday, Jan. 18. Fidel will report directly to me and will be part of my senior leadership team overseeing treasury operations including cash and investment management and debt administration.
Fidel has over 20 years of public finance experience including investment banking and treasury administration. He joins LMU after serving as city treasurer for the city of Long Beach, where he was chief advisor on matters relating to strategic financial planning and implementation. His responsibilities included overseeing $2.3 billion of outstanding bonds; administering the cash-management program ($4.5 billion of annual cash flow activity) including liquidity forecasts, disbursements, and external audits; and overseeing $1.6 billion investment portfolio including asset allocation, trade execution, and performance benchmarking.
Prior to joining the city, Fidel spent nearly 10 years working for a top-10 investment bank. During this time, he executed approximately $40 billion of debt for some of the largest agencies in the country including the state of California, city of Los Angeles, and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
Fidel is actively involved in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Greater Long Beach Community Development Branch. In 2012, he was awarded the Humanitarian Award by the Centro Hispanic Association for his commitment to social responsibility and philanthropic efforts.
I am very confident that Fidel’s experience and integrity will greatly benefit the university. Please join me in welcoming Fidel to LMU.
