
ATHLETICS | Capturing its second tournament championship of the year on Saturday morning, LMU volleyball (8-1) topped Kansas (4-4) on the road by scores of 25-20, 28-26, 23-25, 25-17 to finish 3-0 on the weekend and win the Kansas Invitational. Tess Reid was named tournament MVP in her home state, while Meredith Teague and Savannah Slattery earned all-tournament honors.
The Lions will make their first home appearance of the season this weekend as part of the LMU/Long Beach State Tournament. After playing Southern Utah in Long Beach on Friday night, LMU will be in Gersten Pavilion on Saturday at noon to take on Lamar. The team will be wearing special shoelaces as part of Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer promotion. Volleyball single match tickets are now available for Saturday’s game and all nine conference home matches.
Women’s soccer is coming off a double-overtime draw in Chicago against DePaul, and has a huge week ahead at Sullivan Field. LMU hosts UCLA on Thursday night for a SoCal Showdown. Fans in attendance will receive thundersticks to bring the noise to join both The Cage Night and LMU Housing Night. Kids eighth grade and younger will be eligible for a discounted ticket to celebrate Soccer on a School Night.
The top-25 action continues on Sunday as the Texas Tech women’s soccer team comes to Sullivan Field, part of a double-header with men’s soccer which is hosting Seattle immediately following. Tickets to either game will count towards both. Last week, men’s water polo landed a spot in the top-20 of the Collegiate Water Polo Association polls. With their new ranking, the Lions battled in the WWPA/GCC Conference Challenge Cup taking No. 8 Pepperdine to overtime and keeping close with No. 10 UC Irvine. This week, the Lions travel to Westwood to take on top-ranked UCLA on Saturday.
The Jamaica Classic opponents are set! Men’s basketball will play against Georgetown on Friday, Nov. 16 in Montego Bay and then Ohio two days later on Sunday, Nov. 18.
