As our nation celebrates Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11, LMU will honor all those in the community who have served through military service with an exhibit in the William H. Hannon Library. The exhibit, on the third floor of Hannon Library, will relate stories from veteran students, staff, faculty and our extended military family. Stop by the exhibit from Friday, Nov. 11 through Tuesday, Nov. 22 to learn about their experiences and how they enrich our community with diverse perspectives and how they embody what it means to be people with and for others.

One of the featured students is R.C. Wright III ’23, a history major from Spokane, Washington, who served in the Marine Corps starting at age 19. He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather who served in the Army during World War II. Before attending LMU, he served as a rifleman in the Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, as a combat marksmanship coach at Edson Range in Camp Pendleton, California, and as a platoon sergeant with Bravo Company 1st Battalion, 6th Marines in Camp Lejune, North Carolina.
Wright’s experiences with the military inspired a passion for leadership, professional development, and public speaking. He intends to draw from his eight years’ experience within the Marines and apply his passion for leadership, education, and history to drive further his service in the local community. He led a platoon of 70 infantry Marines as their platoon sergeant. “Building teams and enabling small unit leaders to develop their Marines was an extremely humbling experience,” said Wright. “This leadership experience allowed me to watch Marines in my charge grow from inexperienced boys into men who could lead and influence their own Marines.”
