Loyola Marymount University has been awarded a Gold rating from the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System – STARS – for the most-recent reporting process.
“Thank you for your hard work and dedication to sustainability,” STARS wrote to Ian McKeown, LMU’s campus sustainability officer. “We hope that this report will be useful in advancing sustainability at your institution and showcasing the efforts already achieved.”
The STARS report, an endorsement through May 2028, is based on a series of self-reported metrics covering academics, including curriculum and research; engagement on campus and in the community; operations; planning and administration; and innovation and leadership.
“Sustainability is not one office or person on campus,” said McKeown. “The tremendous work of our community has led to this prestigious award. A massive debt of gratitude to our sustainability coordinator Lucy Renfrow, our community, and student employees for the lift to complete this project. We as a university our horned to be given this ranking.”
Putting the campus efforts in context, McKeown added, “A greener, cleaner future will provide a world of rich economic opportunities, preserve the health of all people, elevate our communities, and ensure natural wonders are preserved for all to enjoy. We as a university are a small city in our function, able to prove the merits that can be applied on global scale for true sustainability progress.”
