EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT | LMU will join millions worldwide this Thursday, Oct. 21, in the Great ShakeOut, one of the world’s largest earthquake drills.
At 10:21 a.m., and again at 6:21 p.m. for evening classes, the Westchester and Loyola Law School campuses will receive an LMU Alert to “DROP, COVER and HOLD ON.” All Lions should immediately get under sturdy furniture or along an interior hallway, away from windows, and crouch down – protecting head and neck with one arm, and holding on to furniture with the other arm, if possible.
The Great ShakeOut is a good reminder to practice “DROP, COVER and HOLD ON,” assess your exit routes and emergency supplies in your classroom, office space, home, and car. Take time to prepare with the Earthquake Country Alliance’s 7 Steps to Earthquake Safety, and ensure your emergency communications plan and supplies are adequately stocked (use this checklist to build an under-bed bag for immediate use, go-bag for three days, and home emergency kit for two weeks).
Need to give your emergency supplies a boost? On Wednesday, Oct. 20, LMU Public Safety officers will be available from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Palm Walk to answer questions about earthquake preparedness and pass out giveaways to help stock your emergency kit.
