October is Ready.gov’s Earthquake Preparedness Month, and next week LMU Emergency Management is hosting its tenth annual emergency preparedness fair, in advance of the worldwide Great ShakeOut earthquake drill, to help the bluff community be prepared.
QuakeFest 2023
Need to give your emergency supplies a boost? Join your fellow Lions on St. Robert’s Lawn from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18. You can meet representatives from LAFD, L.A. County Public Health, American Red Cross, California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and more, to get your questions answered and help resupply your emergency kit.
Vouchers for free food at Wellness Wednesday will be available to the first 150 attendees, and the first 100 visitors to the Emergency Management booth will also receive a free giveaway. Please stop by to enjoy the festivities and get yourself prepared!
The Great ShakeOut
On Thursday, October 19 at 10:20 a.m. and 6:50 p.m., LMU will participate in the USGS Great ShakeOut earthquake drill, along with 15 million people worldwide. Both drills will be initiated by an LMU Alert and a public announcement on the campus speaker system. Please dedicate one minute to DROP, COVER and HOLD as if it were a real earthquake. An LMU earthquake drill guide is available here, and is also available in hard copy form in the Foley Annex building.
A prepared community is a resilient community, and together, we can ensure we are ready for anything that comes our way. Learn more about QuakeFest and the Great ShakeOut at lmu.edu/quakefest.
