Donations and fundraising are the most effective assistance the LMU community can provide at this time in regards to fire relief efforts in Southern California. It is best that you make monetary contributions, no matter how small, so that agencies on the ground can use these funds to meet the needs of the victims of the fires in the most-effective way possible.
The following agencies are on the ground and are already providing aid to fire victims:
American Red Cross: Is accepting donations in support of the California wildfires.
Thomas Fire Fund: The Thomas fire in Ventura County has burned at least 96,000 acres. The United Way of Ventura County has partnered with the American Red Cross of Ventura County and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services to create a fund to help fire victims. Donations can be made at www.vcunitedway.org
Catholic Charities of Ventura County: Provides social services to those affected by the Ventura fires. Donations can be made here.
Humane Society of Ventura County: More than 100 animals are being housed at the Humane Society location. The group has set up an Amazon registry wish list.
Archdiocese of Los Angeles: Provides support to the communities affected by the fires through Catholic Charities of Los Angeles and local parishes and schools. Donations can be made here.
The LAFD Foundation: The Foundation collects money to cover costs that the fire department can’t always afford, including brush helmets, custom flashlights and night-vision capability. Donations can be made here.
