An extreme heat warning has been issued for Los Angeles County through 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8. The university is closely monitoring weather conditions and taking steps to support the health and safety of our campus community.
Extreme Heat Precautions
We strongly encourage all students, families, faculty, staff, and guests to take precautions to stay safe and comfortable throughout the day.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
- Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing.
- Know the signs of heat illness: headache, dizziness, muscle cramps, and nausea.
- Never leave anyone (including pets) in a parked vehicle.
- Supervisors should ensure all team members are aware of the signs and symptoms of heat illness and understand applicable prevention protocols.
All Lions are encouraged to visit the EHS Heat Illness Information page for information and additional resources. Supervisors should ensure employees watch this video from Cal/OSHA on heat illness prevention, and share with them the “Protect Yourself from Heat Illness” Pocket Guide (available in English and Spanish).
