Over the next two weeks, LMU Emergency Management will host a series of fire drills across the Westchester campus. During this time, all occupants must immediately exit the building and make their way to their designated evacuation area.
All drills will be conducted during regular business hours. Be sure to familiarize yourself with evacuation procedures and what to do in the event of a fire in your area.
Fire Drill Tips
- Know your building’s nearest fire extinguisher, fire pull station, and closest fire exit.
- Familiarize yourself with your building’s designated evacuation area.
- During a drill: leave your belongings, and calmly and confidently proceed to the designated evacuation area, using the closest fire exit.
- If possible, close all doors firmly behind you as you exit the building.
- Always use the stairs in an emergency – do not use elevators. Help those around you who may need assistance navigating the stairs.
- Never assume it’s a false alarm.
When participating in the drill, consider different scenarios that may happen in a real fire, including:
- What would you do if a fire was blocking the nearest stairwell or fire exit?
- What would you do if there was a fire in the break room or kitchen?
- Where should you go if you aren’t able to safely evacuate using the nearest fire exit?
