This coming weekend will culminate the academic year with Commencement celebrations for undergraduates (Saturday) and graduates (Sunday). All staff who plan to attend Commencement, either working or as a guest, or otherwise plan to access campus this weekend should review the following logistics information:
For staff attending Commencement this weekend:
- Security Checkpoint: All event attendees must pass through security to access the event area. General admission checkpoints are located at the west side of Hilton and at Rosecrans Lane. Any bag brought to the event must follow the same regulations applied to concerts and sporting events — please review the full list of bag requirements and prohibited items here.
- Parking: You may park in any lot, but be advised that parking fills quickly. Campus will be closed to incoming traffic once parking hits full capacity (historically, this happens shortly after 9 a.m.). If you arrive close to or after 9:30 a.m., head directly to the overflow parking site at St. Bernard’s High School (9100 Falmouth Avenue, Playa del Rey 90293). Free shuttles will run regularly between St. Bernard’s and the Westchester campus (allow for 30 minutes transportation time).
- Building Closures: All buildings within the event perimeter will be closed, and will re-open approximately one hour after Commencement ends. The following buildings will be fully closed during Commencement and the morning leading up to each event:
- Sacred Heart Chapel
- Xavier Hall
- Foley Building
- Seaver Science Hall
- Communication Arts
- Howard B. Fitzpatrick Pavilion
- Burns Fine Art Center, Burns Annex
- Hogan Hall
- Murphy Recital Hall
- Dining Hours of Operation: The following locations will be open on Commencement weekend:
- Lion’s Den: Saturday 7 a.m. – 11 a.m., Sunday closed
- Starbucks: Saturday 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- The Lair: Saturday 7 a.m. – 11 a.m., Sunday 8 am. – 1 p.m.
For staff not attending Commencement but require campus access this weekend:
- Please be aware of all building closures. Campus roads will also be closed to normal traffic patterns.
- OneCards are required to enter campus before 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. License Plate Recognition will also be operating at the Loyola Blvd. gate.
- Campus Safety will not be able to fulfill office access requests outside the event area; please have your OneCard handy if you require access to a locked space.
