The LMU community will celebrate and honor the work of student employees from April 15-19 with donuts, awards to honor student employees and student supervisors of the year, and a movie night.
On average, LMU employs in the academic year about 3,200 students who work an average of 8-10 hours a week in about 4,200 jobs across all departments on campus. Student employees support every part of campus operations from the recycling yard to the recreation center and office support to event setup.
Lauren Daniels, director for Student Employment Services shared why celebrating these students is so important. “LMU is acknowledging the invaluable and substantial contributions of our student staff by hosting Student Employee Appreciation events throughout the week of April 15-19, 2024,” said Daniels. “Our goal is to celebrate student employee’s dedication to the values of LMU and the commitment to gaining career-enhancement experiences. We believe our student employees are simply the best. Supervisors, staff, and students around the campus truly appreciate the hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment to supporting LMU’s operational needs. Please join Student Employment Services in celebrating your student employees this week and encourage them to participate in the planned events.”
The week began with offices celebrating their student employees and on Tuesday, April 16, at 11 a.m. SES is inviting student employees to join them on Palm Walk for donuts and swag giveaways. On Wednesday, April 17, from 2-3 p.m. in St. Robert’s Auditorium, SES will host the Student Employee and Supervisor of the Year Award Ceremony to celebrate those students employees and a student supervisor who have excelled in their positions. These awards recognize and celebrate students who have made outstanding contributions to the LMU community through their on-campus employment. Students, nominated by their supervisors, and supervisors nominated by their student employees, are honored at LMU’s annual Student Service and Leadership Awards each spring. The week will conclude with a movie night at Sunken Garden at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and thank you photos with individual offices on Friday.
