Cabinet Corner is a periodic feature of LMU This Week where the university’s executive leaders share their perspectives with the community. The President’s Cabinet will provide updates on initiatives, policies, events, challenges, and areas of interest.
Thomas Poon, executive vice president and provost, writes:
Each year our university community takes on the heroic task of putting on a series of commencement celebrations, including but not limited to our incredible undergraduate, graduate, and Loyola Law School commencement ceremonies. The days, weeks, and months leading up to the many celebratory events are filled with meetings, run-throughs, late nights, early mornings, and last-minute accommodations. Staff and faculty work tirelessly to plan, prep, and execute what I believe are some of the most meaningful events in a student’s college career.
The result of the care and attention given by the countless teams across campus is much like the duck analogy: events glide smoothly across the finish line while our involved staff are paddling with all their might under the surface. It is important to me that I take the opportunity to thank the dozens of staff, faculty, and students who have given their time, labor, and love to make our commencement ceremonies a success. Our colleagues in Conference and Event Services, Public Safety, the Registrar’s Office, Marketing, Communications, and External Relations, Campus Ministry, Student Affairs, and so many more offices and departments deserve a huge round of applause (and hopefully some well-deserved time off this summer).
I am still in awe of the way our community came together to make these events memorable for our graduates, their families, and for our campus community. I thank you all, and look forward to making new memories next year.
