Information Technology Services (ITS) recently announced a new website to help the campus navigate emerging artificial intelligence. The site provides tools, resources and links to help facilitate awareness, innovation, and responsible use of AI for teaching, learning, research and operations at LMU. Like AI, this website will continue to evolve and ITS invites feedback, information, and collaboration, in service of the LMU community. You can provide feedback by contacting the ITS Service Desk.
Two of the many AI tools currently available to the LMU community, include Microsoft Copilot and Zoom AI. You can learn more about each tool in further detail below.
Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot is LMU’s approved AI chat solution, offering the power of GPT-4 with enterprise data protection from Microsoft. It generates custom answers using current web data, and has the ability to address follow-up questions. Every response is accompanied by sources, so you know exactly where the information is coming from (please remember to review the citations for generated responses). Using Copilot protects confidential LMU information, whereas using other AI tools on the web may expose private university data and your personal information to the public. However, you should never place any personal identifying information (PII) in any AI tool, including those endorsed by LMU. LMU policies on security, privacy, and acceptable use still apply when using any AI tool.
Log in at copilot.microsoft.com/ using your LMU/LLS email address and password.
After signing in, look for a message confirming “Your personal and company data are protected in this chat” above the chat input box, to ensure you are using Copilot with Data Protection. Learn more here.
Zoom AI Companion
Zoom has an AI companion which can be enabled on LMU Zoom accounts. There are three major components that cover meetings, recordings, and the whiteboard. Some of the features include the ability to:
- Process recording with highlights and chapters
- Summarize a chat thread
- Provide meeting summaries without the need to record the meeting
- Answer questions about a meeting in progress
- Provide a way to get caught up if you missed part of the meeting
As a reminder, Zoom does not use any of your audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments, or other communications like customer content (such as poll results, whiteboard, and reactions) to train Zoom’s or third-party artificial intelligence models. Learn more here.
