ACADEMIC AFFAIRS | The ACE Lab steering committee that was appointed by Provost Thomas Poon last October is pleased to share that the five working groups — each examining a specific target area for comprehensive internationalization — have begun meeting. Their charge is to conduct an in-depth internationalization review to assess existing initiatives and notable gaps in institutional policies and practices, as well as analyze LMU’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges.
The ACE Lab working groups are:
- Articulated Institutional Commitment, Structure, and Staffing;
- Curriculum, Co-Curriculum, and Student Learning Outcomes;
- Faculty/Staff Development, Policies, and Procedures;
- Education Abroad;
- Collaborations and Partnerships.
The working group’s members, including faculty, staff, deans and administrative leaders, were selected from a robust pool of applicants resulting from an open call to the entire LMU community last November. The steering committee has charged each working group with employing various methods to engage all community members across constituency groups to document their expertise and diverse perspectives to help us formulate an action-oriented strategic international plan to strengthen our visibility as a globally influential university. The working groups will report their main findings to the steering committee along with a set of recommendations for implementation later this year.
To document and communicate our progress, an ACE Lab website has now been launched to provide the LMU community with updates throughout the process during the next several months. The website includes information about the ACE Lab process, timeline, steering committee members/charge, working groups members/charge, resources for internationalization in higher education, and news/events. We will be adding a link to the website soon to provide an opportunity for community members to submit questions and feedback.
