The university is aware of the recent arrest of Sean Baba, a 2016 graduate of LMU, as part of an undercover child predator police operation in Portland, Oregon. Baba served as the director of music ministry at St. Pius X Parish in Oregon at the time of his arrest. Prior to that, he served as a music minister in several local parishes in Los Angeles. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has no record of any allegations against him from that time.
LMU takes allegations of sexual misconduct seriously and supports holding accountable abusers and those who protect them. The university also stands with those who may be affected by news reports about the charges facing Baba. LMU CARES, Community of Care, and the Employee Assistance Program provide resources and support for survivors of sexual misconduct. LMU encourages students, faculty, staff, and alumni to report any incident of sexual misconduct to the university and to law enforcement. The Archdiocese’s victims assistance coordinator, Dr. Heather Banis, is available at 213.637.7650 or HBanis@la-archdiocese.org.
