On Jan. 12, the L.A. County Department of Public Health revised its instructions for COVID-19 cases. Most notably, the instructions include updated guidance for COVID isolation, which were determined in partnership with the California Department of Public Health and Cal OSHA. LMU has updated its isolation instructions to remain in alignment with these revisions.
The highlights of these changes include:
- There is no longer a 5-day isolation requirement. Instead, LACDPH instructs:
- For individuals with COVID-19 Symptoms:
- Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 and have symptoms shall stay home away from others until fever free for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication AND other symptoms are mild and improving.
- Masks are required to leave isolation before 10 days from symptom onset or positive test date when around other people.
- You can remove your mask sooner if you have two sequential negative tests at least one day apart.
- For individuals without COVID-19 Symptoms:
- Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 and have no symptoms are not required to isolate, provided they wear a well-fitting, high-quality respiratory mask whenever around other people.
- You can remove your mask sooner if you have two sequential negative tests at least one day apart.
- For individuals with COVID-19 Symptoms:
For students who live in university housing: because it is unsafe to wear a mask when sleeping, students must continue to sleep in their designated isolation space (or off-campus if they are not isolating in a designated university isolation space) once cleared to leave isolation. This living arrangement will last through day 10 from symptom onset, or until they have two negative COVID-19 tests in a row that were each taken at least one day apart.
