The Federal First Reconfiguration of Workday will be implemented fall of 2023. Federal Work Study (FWS) awards will now follow student employees and be paid for out of a central budget. This will allow supervisors to hire as many FWS students as necessary to support their respective units, maximizing LMU’s use of FWS funds. Hiring managers will no longer be required to allocate funds when hiring work study or non-work study (NWS) students.
With these improvements, LMU Student Employment Services will also be implementing the following changes and updates for academic year 2023-24:
- There is no need to allocate FWS, LMU Work Study (LWS), or NWS funds during the Workday hire process.
- Student Employment Services will start reviewing and approving hires on Monday, Aug. 21, 2023.
- Any hires currently in the Workday queue will be canceled.
- Most job profiles are being consolidated into the title Student Assistant I.
- View the new Pay Rate Rubric for the 2023-24 academic year.
SES understands the changes may cause delays and inconveniences in hiring plans for some departments, but all Workday processes and tasks must be thoroughly tested and monitored before release. Your patience and understanding are appreciated as this joint effort across campus partners comes to fruition. This reconfiguration is designed to make the hiring process easier and will take restraints off the number of federal work study students departments can hire.
Managers will still be responsible for accounting for their non-work study students in their operational budgets and grants. LWS and NWS are still available for students, but supervisors are advised to prioritize using FWS with future hires. Should you have any questions or concerns, please email SES@lmu.edu or call ext. 87606.
