A Day of Discovery Expo that educates students and local residents about the aviation and aerospace industries through interactive exhibits, activities and talks will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the atrium of University Hall at Loyola Marymount University.
This event will feature booths and activities from NASA, March Field Air Museum, Boeing, Cal State L.A., Flight Path Learning Center & Museum, the Aero Club of Southern California, Planes of Fame Air Museum, Giving Kids Wings Flight Academy, Women in Aviation-LA Chapter, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide, The Columbia Memorial Space Center in Downey, Calif., the Los Angeles Lakers and Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology, among many others.
The day’s events will be highlighted by a keynote address by General Kevin P. Chilton, a former pilot of the Space Shuttle Endeavour and commander of the Space Shuttle Atlantis, who will talk about his time and experience as an astronaut and his three missions to space.
A distinguished graduate from the U.S. Air Force pilot training and test pilot schools, General Chilton served 11 years at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and has commanded at the wing, numbered air force, major command and unified combatant command levels.
General Chilton grew up in Westchester and graduated from St. Bernard High School. He currently serves on the advisory board of the Flight Path Learning Center and Museum at Los Angeles International Airport.
