Wole Soyinka, a Nobel prize-winning writer and longtime activist in his home country of Nigeria, called on the international community to intervene and assist in that nation following the dramatic abduction of nearly 300 girls by the fundamentalist terrorist group Boko Haram in April.
Soyinka is the President’s Marymount Institute Professor in Residence at LMU, and spoke at the university’s graduate commencement on Sunday, May 11. He has been a vocal proponent of wider international involvement in the struggle against Boko Haram, whose name translates as “Western education is sinful,” and similar groups.
