LMU is thrilled to announce the School of Film and Television’s own Bryce Hirschberg (recent alum ’12) and sophomore Isidor Pollak have been selected as part of KCET’s Fine Cut Series. The five-week series showcases some of the finest documentaries, comedic, dramatic and animated shorts by students.
Hailing from Laguna Niguel, Bryce Hirschberg is a recent graduate of LMU SFTV. His innovative short film Counterfeiters was shot in one continuous shot and has been receiving praise and awards. Not only was it selected for KCET’s festival, but the film also received the Best Picture Award in the LMU School of Film and Television’s 2012 Film Outside the Frame Festival, as well as Best Experimental Film in the California Film Awards. Counterfeiters will make its television debut on KCET on January 17th at 9pm.
San Diego native Isidor “Izzy” Pollak attended the Canyon Crest Academy High School where he was involved in the Acting Conservatory Program. Shifting his focus from ‘in front of’ to ‘behind’ the camera has proven to be a seamless transition. Pollak’s sophomore level student film Dreams: A Trayvon Martin Story will have its television debut on KCET on February 7th at 9pm.
Counterfeiters: Filmed in one continuous shot. A group of college dropouts come up with a simple way of counterfeiting money. But when they get too greedy, they learn there are no shortcuts in life.
Dreams: A Trayvon Martin Story: Shot on the RED Epic and 5dMKii, Dreams: A Trayvon Martin Story, incorporates narrative elements as well as audiotape from the actual event itself. On the quest to abolish hate, Dreams attempts to show the audience that sometimes guilt lies in the hands of an external element: fear.
About LMU School of Film and Television
Movie industry moguls helped establish Loyola Marymount University’s current campus on the bluffs above west Los Angeles in the 1920s. By 1964, LMU was formally teaching film and television curriculum, and in 2001, the School of Film and Television (SFTV) was established as its own entity. Today, SFTV offers students a comprehensive education where mastering technical skills and story is equally important to educating the whole person, including the formation of character and values, meaning and purpose. SFTV offers undergraduate degrees in animation, production, screenwriting, film and television studies and recording arts; and graduate degrees in production, screenwriting and writing and producing for television. The school is one of the few film programs providing students with a completely tapeless model of production and post-production, and SFTV’s animation program is one of the only in the world teaching virtual cinematography. Selected alumni include John Bailey, Bob Beemer, Francie Calfo, Brian Helgeland, Francis Lawrence, Lauren Montgomery, Jack Orman, Van Partible and James Wong, among others.
