Loyola Marymount University moved up to the No. 3 spot among the best regional universities in the west in the latest edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges.” LMU was ranked No. 4 last year.
LMU was also listed as a “Best Value” university in the category, which includes schools that offer a full range of undergraduate programs and master’s degrees.
“Once again, LMU has been recognized by those who study academic excellence and quality education,” said President David W. Burcham. “Our faculty, students and staff are among the best anywhere. We take pride in our strengths, and this ranking is simply one more piece of evidence reflecting that reality.”
Additionally, LMU’s Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering rose in the ranking of undergraduate engineering programs, landing in a six-way tie for the No. 25 spot.
“Our college works hard to keep our class sizes small and give our students individualized attention and hands-on experience,” said Richard G. Plumb, dean of the college. “Moving up two places in the U.S. News ranking shows that our focus on academic excellence is gaining notice.”
Two programs in the College of Business Administration were ranked among the top 30 nationwide: the Marketing program, at No. 22, and Accounting, at No. 26.
The U.S. News report is the latest college ranking list to include LMU among its upper echelons. This summer, the Princeton Review included the university in three categories of its annual Best Colleges book, including Best Library, Happiest Students, and “Their Students Love These Colleges.” Also, Forbes ranked LMU in the top ten percent of four-year colleges nationwide.
