Hundreds of LMU students, faculty and staff descended on The Midnight Mission in Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 19, for the President’s Day of Service to celebrate the upcoming inauguration of David W. Burcham as the university’s 15th president.
The event was one of four on Saturday, which wrapped up a week of service projects throughout Los Angeles, as well as some organized by LMU alumni in other cities around the country.
Burcham has made the week of service a key part of his inauguration celebration. “Too often, the inauguration of a new president is seen only as a celebration for the campus,” said Burcham. “But we wanted to share this occasion with the rest of the city and highlight who we are as an institution and our commitment to public service.”
