The Animation Department at the LMU School of Film and Television has been named to the prestigious IPAX program run by Sony Pictures Imageworks.
Membership in the program, whose full name is Imageworks Professional Academic Excellence, means LMU faculty and students will have the opportunity to apply for fellowships, professional workshops, and scholarships only available to IPAX member schools. “This is a remarkable recognition for the young Animation program, and for its high level of academic instruction and artistic quality,” said Jose Garcia Moreno, chair of the department. LMU joins a select group of institutes, academies and universities from around the world with IPAX membership, including the Filmakademie Baden-Wurttemberg, Carnegie Mellon, Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Southern California, Ringling College of Art and Design, Stanford University, Linkopings Universitet and others. The program offers summer fellowships for selected faculty members to work with professionals at the Imageworks facility in Culver City; summer internships for students; on-site visits by Imageworks artists to LMU; and scholarships for select students recommended by faculty. Sony Pictures Imageworks is an Academy Award-winning visual effects and animation company that has worked on films including Spider-Man, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Watchmen, and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. It is a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment. |
