Margaret Kasimatis, vice president for Academic Planning and Effectiveness at Loyola Marymount University, has been elected to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges’ Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities.
The commission evaluates the quality and effectiveness of colleges and universities offering baccalaureate and higher degrees in California, Hawaii, Guam and the Pacific Basin. Kasimatis was one of five elected to the 25-member commission this summer by the chief executive officers of accredited colleges and universities in the Western region. During her two-year term, Kasimatis will work with other commissioners to evaluate and act on institutional review portfolios for initial accreditation or reaccreditation. Commissioners also review and set policies related to accreditation standards and procedures. Commissioners are strongly encouraged to serve as members of accrediting teams or as team chairs. “It is a tremendous honor to be elected to the WASC Commission,” said Kasimatis. “Serving on the commission is a wonderful opportunity to work with colleagues across the region to shape the accreditation process so that it is valuable to both the member institutions and the students and other stakeholders they serve.” In addition to her role in academic planning, Kasimatis holds a faculty appointment in the Psychology Department. Kasimatis earned her B.A. in psychology from Loyola Marymount University and her M.S. and Ph.D. in social psychology from Purdue University. |
