Loyola Marymount University’s Mexican American Alumni Association will honor outstanding community leaders and student achievements at the 2008 Scholarship Awards Dinner. Actor and LMU alumnus Tony Plana of ABC’s “Ugly Betty” will be the host.
2008 honorees include: Banco Popular, receiving the Corporate Award for Service to the Latino Community; Argelia Atilano, radio and TV personality, receiving the Alumni Role Model of the Year Award; Para Los Niños, receiving the Community Service Award; and Vivian Vallin, LMU Class of ’09, receiving the prestigious Merrifield Scholar Award for her outstanding academic and community achievements.
LMU MAAA was established in 1981 and awards partial tuition scholarships to Loyola Marymount University students who demonstrate academic achievement, unmet financial need and a commitment to the Latino community. Since its inception, MAAA has awarded more than $1.5 million dollars to more than 1,000 students. MAAA supports students with their education and promotes a lifelong connection between alumni, students and the LMU community.
