When the polls close Nov. 4, the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles will release initial results from its 2008 Election Exit Poll. The announcements will include tallies for the presidential election, state propositions and local measures, including Propositions 1A, 3, 4, 7 and 8; and Measures R, J, Q and Proposition A.
Fifty-five precincts throughout Los Angeles have been selected using the Leavey Center’s “racially stratified homogeneous precinct sampling method” to ensure a representative sample of some 2,500 white, Latino, Black and Asian voters. When the polls open on Election Day, nearly 200 Loyola Marymount University students will distribute the Leavey Center’s 2008 Exit Poll Survey, collect and input data.
The initial results will be released at a reception on Election Night. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is expected to attend. State Sens. Jenny Oropeza and Alex Padilla; Assemblymen Kevin De Leon and Felipe Feuntes; and City Council members Tony Cardenas, Bernard Parks, Wendy Greuel and Janice Hahn have all confirmed they will attend.
