Mason Stockstill joined LMU in 2009, after two years in communications for Oakland-based SEIU United Healthcare Workers-West, a union representing 150,000 healthcare workers throughout California. His responsibilities included running a regularly updated website and securing media coverage in outlets including the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, KPFA 90.7 FM and KABC-TV, among many others. Previously, Mason worked as a journalist for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, The Associated Press, and City News Service. His work as a reporter was honored by the Society of Professional Journalists and the California Newspaper Publishers Association, and he twice placed in the National Headliner Awards, given annually by the Press Club of Atlantic City.
A native of Southern California, Mason earned a BA in American Literature and Culture from UCLA and an MFA in English and Creative Writing from Mills College, where he also taught writing.
